MOBILE/CONTACTLESS and omni-COMMERCE

Mastercard and London & Partners (the Mayor of London’s official promotional agency) have launched a mobile app to improve the visitor experience in the city. http://tinyurl.com/y93ofz82

The app includes Masterpass payment functionality enabling users to buy tickets in-app.

 

MyPinPad ‘eBook’ on mPOS covering its MPES PIN Entry Solution.  http://tinyurl.com/ycosta26

MPES is an alternative to purchasing traditional PCI PTS hardware based solutions and removes the need for a dedicated hardware PIN pad.

Meanwhile Nordea is supporting Apple Pay for its customers in Denmark, Finland and Sweden. http://tinyurl.com/ycq3b8mt

Nordea says approximately 1.3 million mobile banking customers are already using iOS devices every month. Jyske Bank (Visa debit cards only) will also support in Denmark, ST1 in Finland and Sweden. Other Banks are preparing to follow.

 

Getswish, that runs Swish in Sweden, is partnering with Tieto and Bontouch to develop the mobile payment solution further and provide ongoing support. http://tinyurl.com/y7x7ysdn

Swish now has c6m users who make c25m payments per month.

 

Bancontact has rolled out contactless payments in Belgium.  http://tinyurl.com/ydfdwasx

The payment method is now available for 99% of all Bancontact card holders.

 

Piraeus Bank is to support UnionPay Mobile QuickPass in Greece.  http://tinyurl.com/ybwt4vs8

UnionPay cardholders will be able to pay by tapping UnionPay cards with the QuickPass signage or QuickPass-enabled mobile phones at more than 50,000 merchants in Greece.

The solution speeds up the checkout experience with Google sending merchants payment information and shipping address using the details stored in the user’s Google account. Easy integration with the Google Payment API. Widens payment ability away from Android Pay.

 

PayPal is also rolling out PayPal Marketing Solutions – a set of new marketing and analytics tools that will help businesses analyse customer behaviour and create focussed shopping experiences to support increases in sales. http://tinyurl.com/y9a94bw4

The Shopper Insights feature includes aggregated and anonymous information about the behaviours and preferences of PayPal shoppers on a merchant’s site.

 

PayPal is enabling US users to send funds to Friends and Family in Messenger. http://tinyurl.com/ybn8ca5a

It is also introducing a PayPal customer service bot for Messenger. There is no indication that these enhancements will be implemented outside the US.

MasterCard has announced the launch of Mastercard Consumer Control in the US. http://tinyurl.com/yavew8hv

The solution provides consumers with an aggregated view of where their cards are stored across all digital channels, as well as the ability to control how, when and where those cards are used. An API is now available through the Mastercard Developers portal.

Developed with Qualcomm Technologies and ODG (Osterhout Design Group), it delivers photorealistic augmented reality and provides consumers with the ultimate customised, security-focused shopping experience.

The move enables Facebook to use the Visa Token Service to accelerate the availability of its payment-enabled solutions and services.

 

ATMs

Nets has had its contract to support Nokas’ ATMs in Norway, Sweden and Finland renewed for a further five years. http://tinyurl.com/y7kv2wd6

Nets will handle the acquiring and settlement of all Visa- and MasterCard transactions from Nokas’ ATM portfolio.

 

ISSUING

Bank Leumi is leveraging it Pepper mobile banking platform. http://tinyurl.com/y9h5sgaq

Working with Temenos and VMware, Bank Leumi has developed an advanced digital banking platform that combines Pepper’s product base with Temenos’ Core Banking platform and deployed on VMware’s cloud infrastructure.

 

REMITTANCES

Transferwise is changing its pricing for £ payments from the UK. http://tinyurl.com/yam3p4kr

For some it will be cheaper but some users will see increases, particularly those sending ‘medium-sized’ transfers.

 

SME ACCOUNTING

QuickBooks is to introduce developments in QuickBooks that will enable one-touch electronic invoicing and Gmail integration as well as a mobile card payments reader. http://tinyurl.com/ya8rov74

While elements of the Invoicing offer are already available in the UK this looks like a US initiative, at least initially.

 

SME LENDING

ING is offering online lending to SMEs in France and Italy. http://tinyurl.com/y7nrdhbd

The service will be offered as one identical digital solution on the ING website in both France and Italy. While ING manages the entire process, the bank works with multiple partners combining specialist capabilities.

 

FRAUD

In a release on fraud scams, Barclays has announced it is to introduce a new online fraud intervention service. http://tinyurl.com/yam4674q

The new system will ask customers three fraud prevention questions immediately after making a suspicious and out of character online payment.

 

PCI SSC has announced two new security standards to support secure implementation of EMVCo’s EMV® 3-D Secure (3DS) protocol. http://tinyurl.com/ybse7pga

 

CORPORATE ACTIVITY

Evergood 5 AS has published the offer document for Nets. http://tinyurl.com/lok4frx

The Board of Directors of Nets A/S has prepared a statement in which it recommends the shareholders of Nets to accept the offer.

 

Fintrax Group and Planet Payment have announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Fintrax will acquire Planet Payment for $4.50 per share in cash. http://tinyurl.com/ybodt9m3

Fintrax Group has recently also entered into an agreement to acquire GB Tax Free in the United Kingdom.  The successful completion of the acquisition is subject to approval by the CMA. No price information given.

 

DLT/BLOCKCHAIN/CRYPTO CURRENCIES

Mastercard has announced that it will be opening up access to its blockchain technology via its API published on Mastercard Developers. http://tinyurl.com/ydd2ks6t

The proprietary solution has been tested and validated and will initially be implemented in the B2B space to address challenges of speed, transparency and costs in cross-border payments. The move fits with MasterCard’s investment in Digital Currency Group and its joining the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.

 

EPC/SEPA

The EPC is running a public consultation on revised Mobile Contactless SEPA Card Payments Interoperability Implementation Guidelines. http://tinyurl.com/ycnnlbh4

The guidelines focus on interoperability between the different stakeholders involved in the mobile contactless card payment ecosystem. In particular, they address the interoperability aspects related to the mobile contactless card payment application life cycle management.

REGULATION
