The new version of the app, which replaces PayQwiq, offers automatic collection of Clubcard points with the ability to link multiple payment cards. The app has a single transaction limit of £250.

BBVA’s digital users in Spain use their smartphones to interact with the bank, on average, once a day or every other day.

The project analysed more than 413m card transactions throughout the year to identify the dynamics taking place in these cities.

Consumers place their phone into a compatible VR headset to enter the experience and Masterpass enables in-experience check-out if a purchase is made.

 

Mastercard has released its annual Global Destinations Cities Index.  http://tinyurl.com/y8xzzh8a

The Index ranks 132 top destination cities. London is No2 with visitors spending more on shopping than any other city in the report.

Total losses on card, remote banking and cheque fraud were 8% lower in H1/17 than in H1/16.

 

e-IDENTIFICATION

The EC has welcomed the first formal eID notification from Germany and is calling for EU-wide usage of electronic identification means.

Germany has taken the final step to enable its citizens to use eID to access online services in other Member States. Germany is the first Member State to complete the formal notification of an eID under the eIDAS Regulation. http://tinyurl.com/y7yauo7x

 

ACQUIRING/PROCESSING

JCB International and ICCREA Banca have announced a merchant acquiring agreement aimed at strengthening acceptance of JCB cards in Italy. http://tinyurl.com/y7uth6k2

The agreement will allow the acceptance of JCB cards at all ICCREA POS terminals and for all Italian merchants who are customers of ICCREA.

 

 SIX Payment Services has gone live with RiskShield to protect their acquiring and card issuing business. http://tinyurl.com/y88vdmxt

RiskShield has been running fully integrated in a completely PCI-DSS certified environment since May 2017.

 

APIs/OPEN BANKING/PSD2

The Berlin Group aims to publish the first final version of the standard before the end of 2017.

 

Ecommerce Europe, on behalf of 27 organisations, has fired off another missive to the EC on the SCA RTS, claiming it will hinder European ecommerce.  http://tinyurl.com/y9vnllgm

EE says the letter expresses the legitimate concerns of many clients of the payment institutions sector and is therefore also supported by the European Payment Institutions Federation (EPIF).

 

HSBC  is working on OB APIs and launching a new platform ‘HSBC Beta’.  http://tinyurl.com/y77qt83v

The first release will allow customers to see all of their bank accounts on one screen with 21 different banks including Santander, Lloyds and Barclays available for access through their online banking services.  A new app will be available in early 2018.

 

CORPORATE ACTIVITY

Nets has confirmed it has received a DKK 33.1bn ($5.3bn) takeover offer from PE firm Hellman & Friedman.  http://tinyurl.com/y8p6mpts

On completion of the offer, Evergood 5 intends to delist Nets from Nasdaq Copenhagen. It will aim to further develop Nets as a private company.

FDB will be consolidated in the Financial Services division of Worldline from 1 October 2017.

 

DLT/BLOCKCHAIN/DIGITAL CURRENCY

The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance has published a Global Blockchain Benchmarking Study.  http://tinyurl.com/yddedj43   Report http://tinyurl.com/ybjjj49u

This study, utilising data from over 200 companies, central banks and public sector organisations, is an attempt to examine ‘blockchain’ and the development of DLT empirically, systematically and critically. It aims to delineate the layers of the DLT systems, understand prevailing business models and use cases, reveal underlying architecture and governance, discuss technical obstacles and interoperability issues, and shed a light on current public sector DLT initiatives, potential deployment schedules and challenges.

 

REGULATION

The FCA has published its Regulation round-up for September 2017. The round-up includes details of the outcomes of the FCA’s latest annual review of the AML and sanctions systems of 100 firms randomly selected from those sectors that present a lower inherent money laundering risk. The FCA seems to think all is going well.

 

The CMA has cleared the acquisition by Cardtronics of DirectCash Payments.  http://tinyurl.com/yczjpc6j

After an in-depth investigation the CMA says that competition in the industry are likely to constrain increase in surcharges at pay-to-use machines.
